Dr.Harold Shipman

General practitioner and serial killer Dr. Harold Shipman, often known as "Dr. Death," was from the United Kingdom. He was born in Nottingham, England, on January 14, 1946, and passed away there on January 13, 2004.

When it was determined that Shipman had been intentionally giving his patients lethal quantities of prescription medications, mainly morphine, which caused their deaths, his misdeeds came to light in the late 1990s. He frequently falsified medical documents to conceal his behaviour and have the fatalities appear to be the result of accident.

He was convicted guilty of killing 15 patients in 2000, but it is believed that he may have killed many more people during his medical career—perhaps more than 200. Although his motivation for these killings is still unknown, it is thought that he loved having influence over his patients' lives and deaths.

In January 2000, Harold Shipman received a life sentence without the possibility of release. His situation horrified the medical profession and the general public, which prompted further regulation and inspection of medical professionals in the UK. Along with the need for better healthcare oversight, it also called into question the degree to which people trust doctors.

2004 jail death of Shipman was determined to be a suicide by hanging. His case continues to rank among the most infamous in the history of medicine and criminal law.
